Targets of Investigation

Understanding Target Letters and Investigations
The Importance of Early Legal Counsel
Strategic Advocacy Before Charges Are Filed
Individuals may learn they are under investigation through a target letter, an interview request, or contact from federal or state agents. Being identified as a target does not mean charges are inevitable. It means the government is still evaluating the case and has not yet decided whether to prosecute.
Early representation is often the most effective way to prevent charges from being filed. Counsel can communicate with prosecutors, gather relevant information, and correct misunderstandings before the government reaches a charging decision. This proactive approach is especially valuable in white-collar cases, where intent and documentation often determine outcomes.
My role is to assess the facts, understand the government’s concerns, and present information that may persuade prosecutors not to proceed. By intervening early, reviewing investigative actions, and addressing potential defenses, I work to protect clients during this critical stage and minimize the likelihood of prosecution.
